TAL-ly HO!

It was an interesting documentary with some fair points raised, but I think he was a bit dismissive about the accuracy that can be achieved in theory.

Here is one I've just been playing with...

OK, it takes a bit of skill and practice (what doesn't), but I think rather than using the width of the lines use the border. Then you can work with a much finer gradation.

What do you think?

OK so a bit more thinking and playing...

The sub-divisions represent 10 minutes of RA (six sub-divisions for each hour).

With the setting circle lined up as above, I can see that about four full turns of the the fine-adjustment knob will take me to 10 minutes.

In other words, each full turn is about 2.5 minutes of RA.

I other words, with practice, it is possible to work use this setting circle to half a minute of RA without any modification - just getting used to the way the divisions relate to turning the fine-adjustment knob.

What are your thoughts?

OK for declination, it is three full turns on the fine control knob for 2 degrees. i.e. one full turn is two/thirds of a degree, i.e. 40 arc minutes. So one quarter of a turn is 10 arc minutes.

How am I doing?

EDIT: People with GOTO don't know what they're missing

I've just mentioned to my OH the 2M and the plan getting it across.

I'm still alive ... I think I got away with it.

The beauty about the Alkor is that it is small enough to hide

EDIT: I had considered hiding the 2M - perhaps disguising it as a Christmas tree or camouflaging it as part of a clothes drier stand, but there were small doubts creeping in about the success of this ploy.

"What? That one? Ohhhh, that!

But I've had that one for years. I'm surprised you haven't noticed it before........"

How about, "I just found it in the loft", or, "a friend lent it to me", or even "I'm repairing it for someone"... That at least gives you room to be modding it :D.

The Alcor box is small enough to hide?!?

In a snowbank perhaps.............

Andy, you haven't seen my room/office at home. I was even in with a fighting chance with the 2M. But I had to let on. Feelings of guilt?
