Help needed to update vixen eyepiece to 1.25"

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm very new to all this and hve just inherited an old Vixen 102M refractor onto which I'd like to put a new 1.25" eyepiece. At the moment I have a very old 1" eyepiece and diagonal attached to a step-down ring. The tube coming out of the telescope has an internal diameter of about 1.65" (42mm). What do I need (and where can I get it) in order to adapt that so that I can screw in a 1.25" diagonal (and which diagonal would you recommend)?

Pictures attached.

Thanks very much for any help!

Hi and welcome to SGL.

You have inherited a very nice classic telescope.

Orion Optics UK used to be Vixen importers until a few years back. It's just possible they could have what you are after lurking in old stock, so worth a try.

The current importers to the UK are Opticron, here's a link to their repair service, maybe they can help http://www.vixenoptics.co.uk/Pages/service_repair.htm

Or maybe someone here on SGL has the necessary part.

Very nice scope - I used to have one

I think it's one of the adapters on this web page that you need:

http://www.vixenoptics.co.uk/Pages/eyepiece_adapters.htm

I think it's the 2nd one down but the contact here should be able to confirm this:

My current Vixen 102 ED has the larger 60mm drawtube so uses a different adapter of course !.

With regard to diagonals, most are quite decent but the William Optics one is rather nice:

From the photographs, it appears that you have a 43mm to 36.4mm adaptor already - see third picture down on this link:

http://www.vixenoptics.co.uk/Pages/photographic_accessories.htm

This is what is screwed into the draw tube.

That means you can use the 36.4mm to 31.7mm adaptor as John has indicated. Our part number is 73720.

We have that item in stock and I've already emailed Martin at FLO to let him know the relevant information.

Cheers, Pete
