Stellarium Vs Sky Safari

HI all,

I've been runing Stellarium for a couple of years now and know my way inside out, I've seen a few recommendations to use Sky Safari instead, looking at the app (the basic one isn't comprehensive enough) I'm looking at £9.99 for the mid version, and £24.99 for the pro! Now that's quite a step up from the excellent free Stellarium, is there any real benefit to splashing out on it?

After using the free version there's a lot of filler stuff I quite like (all the text information etc) but the acutally planetarium aspect seems a little lacking and nowhere detailed enough. Is forking out full price worth it? I'm seeing a lot of comments regarding Wifi control, I'm on a fully manual Dob so none of that is relevant at present. I may just stick with the free version and use it to compliment Stellarium, I like the observing lists etc...

And to further on this conversation with myself....the Stellarium mobile app sucks!! It's not a patch on the equivalent £2 app from Sky Safari

Very basic functionality

Information given on selected targets is poor in comparison

Uses a different star catalogue to name all the stars

You pay for an app that feels 1/10th of the power/usability of it's FREE older brother.

The planetarium aspect matches Sky safari but the additional info and likes is woefully behind, this isn't imo a great phone app.
