A Warning To Anyone With A SXV CCD Camera

Hi All,

The USB cable plug is small enough to push into the RJ11 ( auto guider port) socket on the back of the camera. If you do this accident ( as I did ) you can damage the pins at the bottom of the RJ11 socket. If you try to use the camera as a guider the damaged pins stop the guiding commands reaching the mount. I hope I have managed to straighten the pins or if not it will have to go off for repair. :D

Hi John,

If it does need expensive repair, have you thought about claiming on your insurance if you have accidental damage cover... My Dad plugged the power cable of his laptop into the wrong hole and it blew he machine  the computer place who checked and said he'd killed it, suggested insurance, and they paid, so he got a new laptop :D Before this incident I'd never considered that someting like this counted!

Thanks for the reply , Helen.

The camera is still under warranty and I think one of the pins was bent when I bought the camera ( thats my story and I'm sticking to it) . Will have a try tonight if he auto guiding is back to normal - problem solved.
