Skyliner 200p collimation and stock focuser

Recommended Posts

I usually only tweak, having never had the need to take the 'scope apart.

However, this time I loosened everything off re-aligned and re-collimated.

Maybe it was a red backwards moment, but I hadn't realised how much play there is in the stock focuser!

I know you can get a bit nerdy about collimation, but it does seem to make quite a difference depending on which screw on the focuser adapter you tighten first.

I've seen the orion precision centering adapter, but even that needs tightening in the focuser before you add your EPs.

I doubt I'll upgrade the focuser any time soon, so I'm not really sure if I'm asking a particular question.

Am I missing something, or do I just need to make a mental note as to which screw to fasten first?

The collimation looks better than it did when I started so I guess I'll find out the next starry night!

Cheers
