Is this a comet? If so, which one?

Recommended Posts

Hello folks, I took a series of images of Jupiter, the pleiades and Tarus, and after i got back home i noticed a green object moving in the images. I tried to search for observable comets in the area at that date but did not find anything. I'm hoping someone here can help me to identify what i photographed. An arrow points to the green object.

Info about the Images :

Date : 7. Desember

Lat : 59.25664596465302

Long : 9.038400650024414

First picture taken at 22:30

Last picture taken at 22:45

both at local time in Norway

I know the air traffic over the area pretty well and I dont think it can be that, and a sattelite would not be green with a "haze" around it? But a reflaction if Jupiter, that could make sense although im not a optics expert.

I will try to take more pictures of Jupiter like this one i the future with the same settings to see i it can be reproduced.

Thank you both for the suggestions!

I had an almost identical looking spot of green light in a series of images I took last year moving at a similar speed across the frame.

I was unable to determine what it was. If I can find the images in my black hole of a hard drive, then I will try to post them here for comparisson.

For info I was using a Canon 50D and I think I had a canon ef-s 85mm f/1.8 attached to it at the time.

As promised here are my sequence of images cropped a fair bit so you can see the movement.

I left the hot pixels in for reference so you can see that they are not moving but the green spot is.

These were taken over about a 10 minute period on a static tripod.

I had written it off as probably a small flare on the lens from Jupiter.

Definitely a reflection of Jupiter.

You can see it's almost in the opposite position of the frame from Jupiter in all cases.

As the position of Jupiter changes in the frame, so does the blob.
