M42 my first attempt

until now all my attempts at imaging have either been with a dslr on a camera tripod or a webcam on my scope with no motors.

anyway, I bought myself some motors for Christmas and on 1st Jan I got a couple of hrs clear skies. not knowing how long i had i rushed polar alignment and focus (big mistake) and judging by the double diffraction spikes on the bottom star, collimation was questionable. apart from the out of focus eggy stars i'm happy that it was a great learning experience.

50lights/30darks optimised to 70% 30 sec exposures

Thanks for looking
