Comet like streak

Can anybody tell me what the streak of light to the right of (possibly) Rigel is this evening? It's quite long.

I've not noticed it before.

doesnt really help but saw quite a few myself.

Also saw what appeared to be an orange coloured small meteorite fall to earth what appeared to be quite nearby, not a big flash just more like fragment

I suppose I should have said that the line/streak of light, perhaps the width of the moon, had not disappeared by the time I stopped observing.

It didn't advance across the sky, it appeared to remain static.

I did look at Rigel but can't say noticed anything from my location, though some of that area was hidden by tree.

What location roughly are you, also was it though scope or seen without? Maybe someone else can help hopefully

I was using a 4" refractor with a 24mm Panoptic.

I'm currently in West Kent. I couldn't see it through my 15x70 binoculars however.

Further to my post last night I can see a more impressive plume to a comet like object in the area I described.

I still think it's Rigel I'm looking at. The plume is at approximately 2 o'clock to the star. It is best viewed with averted vision.

If it was gone the next night, probably was a high altitude aircraft contrail.

I can only think of the Witch Head. But given that this nebula is mag 13, which isn't even visible with averted vision, that leaves me to think it was probably a contrail or some other atmospheric phenomenon.

Not the witch head.... It's on par with the horse head as far as ease of observing is concerned!

There is a comet in Ursa Major though.
