I see that there is a SAC10 CCD imager on Astro Buy&Sell. Originally £375 but now going for £300.

The spec is good however I'm struggling to get real info on SAC cameras. Are they still trading? The camera has very similar specs to the Opticstar 335 ICE. resolution is 2140x1560 with small pixels (based on a Sony Super HAD ICX262AQ chip. Sound good but has anyone had experience with one of these or other SAC cameras.

At 300 quid it sounds a bargain, Any thoughts?

Robfal,

I have a SAC10 since more than a year, and I have a lot of pleasure with it. Very sensitive, and with some experience you can produce beautiful pictures with it. This is well a one-shot CCD, so you cannot make videos. I has a bit too small pixels for my 10" Skywatcher, so the FOV of the CCD sensor is relatively small. It has USB 1.1 connection, but it is not a major disadvantage in long exposure astro imaging.

On the positive side you have very high resolution on the images ( 3.3 mpix ! ). I make sometimes images on the guide scope at 102/500, there it fits better regarding the pixels/arcsec ratio.

Yu can see some of my humble photos on the stargzrs site, but there are much better pictures around made with the SAC10.

All in all, for that size it is more than worth it.

cheers,

Janos
