well i have a question which has most likely been asked 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 +1 times but i havent found a specific question previously

im looking to buy a new DSLR to replace my aging 300d (nothing wrong with it but id like backyard eos and live view:P)

my budget is the same as a 1100d around £350

so heres the question

should i get a brand new 1100d or somthing like a 500 - 600d which second hand are roughly the same amount. what is the difference between tripple and 4 digits in models.

iv looked on the canon dslr wiki at the timeline on the bottem but it dosent really answer my question apart from telling me in theory the 1100d should be better than a 600d...... but is it?

Hi Gaz, both have good pixel fill and microlensing so that theoretically, all the light hitting the surface of the pixel is recorded - the 1100D has fewer larger pixels but a 600D has a far better noise profile and is very solidly built... personally, if I could find a 600D for £350, I'd get that.

The 550D is a cracking camera as well - might be worth the extra for the flip screen on the 600, but the 550 was the first to introduce micro lensing - very sensitive - I have a 1000D, 450D, 550D and 600D at the moment (though it changes all the time - I have had an 1100D and a 650D - the 1100D is a really nice little compact, lightweight dSLR and gives very pleasing results) and I have to say that just simply for focusing on my refractor I use the 600 more, but the 550 is comparable on image quality - no real changes to the sensor between the 550 and 600.
