New Development Board Looks Interesting

Yesterday, I was looking to see what new and interesting projects there were on the Kickstarter web site and found a new development board that could have a few uses in astronomy.

The board is called the SplashBase Development Board which lets you control things through your network or android phones. If the project gets off the ground there will be many add on boards, the first of which is a board containing 4 relays called SplashBase.

I was thinking this could be used to automate an observatory.

Looks like an interesting & useful project. Loads of potential ....

Unfortunately it doesn't look as if they will reach their funding target by the 2nd December !

I hope they do, I really like the look of this. I've pledged £50 which gets me the developer board and solderbridge if they reach their target.

There are many other similar devices. The oldest one I know of is the Universal Bit Whacker project. If these guys had made a wireless product instead of one that's tied to an ethernet cable, I'd be a lot more interested in it.

It's good that they've developed some shields and phone apps, though.

I've opted to back smartduino and EVE. Especially smartduino seems very flexible platform.

I've backed EVE myself but never saw Smartduino. Must take a look.

Can't you just use a bluetooth shield on an existing Arduino / or Rasperry Pi? There seem to be a lot of pico computers and dev boards about now. Maybe the market is a bit saturated..
