Need some help Windows 7 -64 bit

Cannot get my laptop to recognise the cg5 nexstar hand set , I have downloaded to Ascom platform +the drivers for Celestron

I've even tried to alter the computes parameters to run on 32 bit mode , but the screen goes all pixilated , I've even tried to upgrade the computer with a download to 32 bit ,but iit says not compatable with this version of windows 7-64 bit, the computer came from PC world with Windos 7-64 bit installed , could this be a problem is there a chance its got a blocking system to prevent any changes . the mount is connected by a seiral cable then conected to a usb linc r232 i think its called

I really do not know much about computers but can you run xp on it in any way. my nexstar handset works fine in xp

Check that the usb/serial adaptor is recognised by the device manager (there may be a yellow warning triangle if it isn't) . You may need to update the drivers for the adaptor and also make a note of which comm port windows has assigned the adaptor.
