Morning Folks

Here are a couple of images taken yesterday in very windy conditions. As you can see, one is a 2 panel mosaic using the DMK41, the other is a 9 panel mosaic usinf the DMK21.

Hope you like

(I've literally got loads of data to get through from yesterday so will hopefully be able to post some more over the next couple of days  ).

Thanks for looking.

Very nice Kevin. Boy it was windy 40 miles up the road, I didn't think I would have got any 2x, but you seem to have managed very well. I am guessing they are using your double stack, lots of detail coming through and very nice mosaic, you can't see the joins.

Thanks for the great feedback,

Richard, I think we are all like you in relation to always learning, the great thing about this forum is that whenever you post an image on here, there are always people willing to help you out and give great tips on how to improve so don't worry about posting an image no matter what it may look like.

Robin, I've had some problems with the double stack lately, I had to strip it down and found that the thumbwheel was the problem. The thread on the thumbwheel was not moving freely but once stripped down and adjusted it soon became loose and operable again. These images where the first I managed to take with the double stack back in the set up so was really pleased that it was working ok again.

There's nothing wrong with that Richard apart from it looks as though you've over-cooked the process a little. I hope you don't mind but I've tweeked it a little in Photoshop. (Just clipped the curves a bit  ).

I'm no Photoshop expert by any means so there may be more that can be done with it. I like to firstly invert the image before adding colour to it as in my opinion I prefer this result but we are all different and have our own preferences. It's very much a trial and error approach in the processing for me as each image is unique so each process is different.

Hey Richard, for a first effort that is pretty good. I would never be ashamed of any of my efforts and it is better than my early pictures. Just to prove it here is one from 8/7/12 (yes just 4 months ago) with a PST and Xbox camera at prime focus. within 3 weeks I had graduated to a DMK21 and got more used to the PST and my pics came on in leaps and bounds.

By the way which camera did you use?

I am using the same set up as I do for white light imaging, that is a Canon 50d afocally through a Baader Hyperion 13mm EP. As I have thousands of £'s worth of photographic gear I am loathe to spend out more on yet another camera, so am using what I have (which may not be the best way of doing it, but now being retired I no longer have much money to play with)

Richard,

No problem with a DSLR through a Hyperion, all very good gear and I wasn't suggesting that you go out and buy a specialised camera. There is a huge difference between your 50D and a cheap webcam like the Xbox camera I bought for £5. I keep thinking of having a go with my 600D at prime focus on my Lunt as there is enough focus range, but just haven't got round to it yet.

I have seen some good pictures afocal, in fact Kev of 'PhotosbyKev' wrote a very nice article (link below) and his pictures are superb.

It is like all things, just takes a bit of practise.

Yes, I have seen Kev's tutorial, very good it is too. My problem at the moment is focusing through the 50D's viewfinder. I really need to get the laptop up and running but we have had so little sun since I started Ha that it hasn't been worth the effort of getting it all together, so most of what I have gotten have been 'grab' shots between the clouds. Could do with a couple of solid hours sunshine to find and perfect a technique. As you say 'It is like all things, just takes a bit of practise'
