First Crack At The Moon With The DSLR

Tried out the Canon on the moon this evening. Took 20 lights and stacked in registax. Had the barlow on too, so did it in 2 parts.

Top left corner has come out quite dark after photoshop. The original still had detail there...

The contrast is a bit fearsome, but there's loads of detail there. Well done.

I know what you mean, but I think I quite like it. Gives a more dramatic look...

I think you've perhaps over-stretched the histogram or over-exposed the original image which has led to some of the craters being blown out, but even so it's very good for a first attempt with a DSLR. It takes a few tries to find an exposure time that works for your scope. I use 1/1000th sec @ ISO200 I think, but that's with a completely different scope. It would be worth experimenting a bit.

I used 1/400 with ISO 800 and Baader filter. The original histograms exposure was OK I think.
