Sony XCD-SX910CR CCD camera

Hi

Has anybody ever used one of these cameras for planetary imaging? I've just been given a new one that was surplus to stock.

Although its no longer made It seems like a good spec machine vision camera, 1/2 Sony colour CCD, firewire etc, C mount.

As its free its got to be worth a play.

If that figure for minimum illumination is 20 lux then I can't imagine it will work at all well in the dark. Generally people seem to be looking for a sensitivity of fractions of 1 lux. 20 lux is more like a dim room, I think.

I did notice the lux value as well, I wasn't sure what it actually meant. What would a typical ccd webcam / planetary camera be?

It's free so not lost anything if it doesn't work.

To the best of my knowledge the SPC900 is usually quoted as < 1 lux and the DMK21 and DBK21 are a fair bit less than 0.1 lux.
