Which Barlow lens

Recommended Posts

Hello again, I am thinking about getting a barlow lens from First light Optics (who I got my telescope from as well) but I came across a 3x barlow lens, I am rather new to astronomy so I don't know if I should get a 2x or a 3x or should I just wait until i'm better acquainted with the night sky.

Thanks

Hello

Being a beginner myself I came to the conclusion that a decent but cheap 2x barlow is a must have since it effectively doubles your eye piece span.

No idea on brands though, maybe a veteran can chime in with specifics.

Get a 2x, 3x's sound better but they mean a shortish eyepiece cannot be used with them, the overall magnification soon gets too much. A 10mm eyepiece and 2x barlow will give a 10mm + 5mm both useful, a 10mm eyepiece and a 3x barlow will give 10mm and 3.3mm. The 3.3mm being of no real use.

Actually I would consider a 1.6 barlow.
