Opteka 500-1000mm lens

Hi - does anyone have any experience of using the Opteka 500-1000mm telephoto lens for astro (lunar) photography?

I personally dont have experience with that lens but have an 800mm (IIRC) mirror lens which I plan to try in the winter season.

For general photography mirror lenses can be fun, but not ideal. They are a very cheap way to get a lot of focal length but usually at the expense of autofocus and aperture (something not necessarily an issue with AP)

Might be worth a punt.....thats what I did with the one I saw in LCE earlier in the year.

I have a 500mm f6.3 mirror lens which I have only used a few times...

Remember while it's f8 at 500mm it will be f16 at 1000mm when your using the 2xTC ... but as Lee said might be worth a punt ...

I eventually opted for the Samyang 500mm f/6.3 version (second hand off ebay) and managed to get this tonight...

Put the camera on the back of a Mak. Then it's just one big mirror lens

Of course ... been there, done that ( as per below - Nexstar4SE with EOS 60D) ... testing with a 500mm mirror lens is just experimental
