Problem opening .ssf file

Hi All i`m trying to update my synscan handset,have just connected to my laptop have downladed and saved file from skywatcher but my laptop says windows cannot open this type of file--- an .ssf file anyone any idea how to resolve this problem?

It sounds like you're trying to open the file directly in Windows. You need to open the SSF file using the Skywatcher Firmware Loader program, which is a separate download. The Loader manages the firmware upload using the SSF file to the Synscan handset. The loader is available from here: http://www.skywatcher.com/swtinc/customer_support.php?class1=1&class2=101.

Hi Again,tried soldering a new plug as per skywatcher diagram ,should there only be 3 pins 2, 3, and 5, conected,or am i missing something ------- as usual,would have helped had i not lost plug in first place,

This sure helped me.  I hadn't realized that a Firmware Loader was needed to open up and work with the actual firmware update.

I downloaded it and ran it. Bingo.  The new firmware opened up and everything installed perfectly on my handheld.

Things are now uptodate  at firmware level 3.3.5.
