Automated roll-off observatories

Hi all,

Am at the moment in the process of designing a cost-effective (cheap!) roll-off roof shed observatory.

Am currently looking at modifying a metal tin shed eg like one of the ones you can buy from Argos. This has been done plenty of times before.

However this will be a remote observatory which I will be operating 600 miles away using the internet!

So I want to be able to open and close the roof automatically via PC control. Haven't seen much DIY solutions to this out there on the web. Anyone out there have any practical experience of doing this and can share their experiences with me?

Sounds like an interesting project. There are plenty of remotely operated scopes out there, so I'm sure theres some info on the web?

I'd like a rain detector (one that will detect the first drop) but they seem either expensive, complicated or both A motorised roof would be nice too
