July 6, 2012: Interesting regions on the eastern limb

Recommended Posts

I had a look at the sun in H-alpha earlier this evening, and apart from some features I had seen before, an active region appeared on the eastern limb, north of the equator. I spotted several sunspots, and after tuning the etalon, got a series of arc-like structures snaking between them. Just to th enorth of these, a ridge of material seemed to stand out from the sun's surface. It looks like an area to watch in the coming days. To the south, and right on the limb a lovely arc-like prominence showed.
