Crayford onto Early 200P

A friend of mine is wanting to upgrade his rack and pinion focuser to the crayford type like mine but looking at them both the crayford has a bigger footprint with wider hole spacings and the draw tube seems wider on the crayford too. Now looking on some astro shops they sell and crayford as a direct replacement but it looks like the same crayford so what I was wondering is if it is different in size to fit without modification. I don't think either of us are up to cutting OTAs.

There's a 2 page article in the current sky at night mag showing how to replace the r&p focuser with a non direct replacement crayford, it does involve taking both mirrors out though.

And some drilling I done this to my old 200p as well ousted a dremmel tool to cut out a bigger hole just make sure it's square when marking the holes for the focuser

Sp much for a direct replacement then. I doubt it will get done if it needs cutting etc
