Guiding exposure with EQ6 and Lacerta Mgen

Recommended Posts

Hi all !

So I'm shooting with an EQ6 - double plate with GSORC8 and guiding with an ST80 and Lacerta Mgen. Pretty standard so far.

I was wondering what would be the best exposure time to use with the Mgen. So far I've been finding stars using 1s exposure, but I'm wondering if that's OK.

I don't want to chase seeing, nor reach some mechanical limit of the mount.

So if anyone has an advice on what would be the best exposure for this purpose, I'd be grateful.

Thanx all !

I've no direct experience with you guide am, but I tend to use between 1.5-2s exposures to help prevent chasing the seeing....give that a whirl and see (it, of course, will also depending on viewing conditions and the seeing at your site etc.)

Thanx for your input !

Could a too short exposure (1s) potentially cause egg shaped stars ?

Ooh, now your asking ;) tbh I wouldn't know, sounds like an optical issue that would cause that rather than the length of exposure.
