Yo, welcome. This is practical physics, you'll love it. Collimation is a breeze. Get a Cheshire. For final checking use a laser collimator in a Barlow.99% of shift will be the primary mirror. If you don't knock your scope about it'll keep collimation very well.

I checked the nut under the focuser and it's undone, so that's not the problem. I was being a bit keen so when I took it out the viewing conditions were not great, however I got a much clearer picture through the finder scope than through the telescope. I also don't think I moved passed the focal point, because I literally spent 2 hours slowly rotating the bolts in a futile attempt to focus it.

This is why I think it needs collimated ( at least I don't know what else it could be).

Any one have any other suggestions?
