M57 with an 8.5" Scope

Grabbed this a couple of weeks back in my 8.5" scope at x268 magnification. Got a dark wispy central area and a brighter arc of material on one side. Also spotted the faint star just off its shoulder.

Why did you chose to use your 8.5" for this Seb? Any particular reason?

M57 is high on my list of 'to do' soon aswell.

That's a good question. I'm actually looking to build up a catalogue of sketches of some DSOs using different apertures this summer. I think it'll be interesting to compare what I get from different scopes.

I was thinking along the same lines today but using the same scope for two sketches, one at home and one at my dark site. I'm thinking of trying this with a globular cluster.

Really nice sketch and very similar to what I can see with my scope. Do you think under great conditions and skies, with good eyepieces and perfect colliimation that the central star could be resolved in an 8" scope?
