Meade DSI II opinions

Hi. I have a Meade DSI II colour imaging camera. I am curious to find out where this camera sits in the grand scale of things? Is it considered entry level? I appreciate it's not going to be up there with the thousands of pounds units, but how does it compare to others in general?

the DSI IIC's make very good guide cams .. I use one on a 500mm f8 telephoto lens for guiding my CPC800...

I didn't do much imaging directly with it as I found the FOV a bit small for the type of targets I used to enjoy imaging...

Can't comment on the 'C' model, but I had the mono version for a few months until it commited suicide!

Small chip, but sensitive, more so than a DSLR, although how the colour would compare with a DSLR sensitivity wise I don't know....probably very similar.

A thing that is very important with the DSI range is to get temperature matched darks....these need to be within 2 degrees of the lights in my experience, and this can be tricky.

Personally, I'd go for a DSLR, modded or not.
