Saturn

Howdy,

After a change in direction away from DSO imaging here is my recent endevour with Saturn.......

The first is from 28/04/12, the second is from 04/05/12 & the third is a composite showing Saturn and 4 moons from 04/05/12.

I am finding focusing this set up quite difficult, and getting the camera settings 'right' is a real PITA.....

Processing was hard going, until I Rawhead pointed me to AS!2. This seems to do a better job than Registax.... But I have a lot to learn and a long way to go.

As usual C&C welcome folks.

Hi Gary,

Those are pretty good efforts. Well done. i am by no means an expert and have struggled with the correct camera settings. I find it more difficult when you have spent ages trying to image Mars and then switch to Saturn - settings are completely different.

Here are the settings I have had some success with when imaging Saturn:-

[Philips SPC 900NC PC Camera]

Resolution=640x480

Frame Rate (fps)=10.00

Colour Space / Compression=YUY2

Exposure=-4

Brightness=60

Contrast=32

Saturation=11

Gamma=0

ColorEnable=255

BacklightCompensation=0

Gain=50

What capture software are you using?

Ian

Howdy, thanks for the kind words. Yes Planetary imaging is difficult aint it? More so than DSO imaging I think....

Anyway, these were shot using Sharpcap.... It looks a great bit of software and allows more control over the camera compared with Amcap, which is what I started using.

I will try your settings next time, although Saturn is so low and the nights getting lighter now it might be a while till I get out again.
