Manok101
I am curious how to view the sun with Ha filters, are there any that cover the front of the telescope my initial google only found eyepiece Ha, and would those work with white light on the front? A little help is appreciated.
Peter Drew
There are Ha filters which fit over the front of a telescope but they are only half of the required system. You also need a blocking filter which is essential to work in conjunction with the front filter. These cost megabucks. See Coronado, Lunt or Solarscope for full details. Bizibilder
No - you need a dedicated Solar Ha telescope like the Coronado: First Light Optics - Coronado PST Solar Telescope or http://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/coronado-solarmax40-bf10-package_d1588.htmlI think these are marketed in the USA. The Ha filters you see "for eyepieces" are for night time Deep Sky Object photography and are absolutely not for Solar observing.

Coronado, Lunt, Daystar, Solarscope and Baader all sell them, but all of them cost significantly more than a PST.Hydrogen-Alpha (Ha) Filters for Observing the Sun - OPT TelescopesHydrogen-Alpha (Ha) Filters for Observing the Sun - OPT TelescopesDayStar Filters - Ultra narrow Bandpass filtersSolarscope H-alpha Solar Filters and Telescopeswww.solar-spectrum-filter.de - - H-alpha Filter von Solar-SpectrumWhite light filter and night time Ha filter will not work. The solar Ha etalon isolate a very narrow band (>0.1nm), while night time Ha filter only do 7nm.
