Greg, although I do not posses a GOTO it seems you may have got the hang of it as by what I have read, manually re-centering improves the finding accuracy. With you Polar illuminating device you should have some form of control over the brightness, there should only be enough background illumination to show Polaris and the etched grid in the Polar scope in clear outline, which is the general intention of the device. Your instructions may have some detail on this. If you have further difficulties readdress the problem in the section Beginners Help & Advice, as it has a very big following with plenty of knowledgeable input from the members
