Tree Skimming Sombrero

M104 captured as it briefly rose above the trees on my Southern Horizon during the last few nights.

24 x 300s L + 15 X 300s R,G,B

Quattro 10CF, ST2000XCM, CFW10, Baader Filters, NEQ6Pro

I decided to try to minimise the star bloat caused by the atmosphere by limiting the subs to 300s rather than my usual 600s - I think it may have been beneficial.

There are a small number of M104's globular clusters hovering just on the brink of detection in the image; I'll try processing differently to bring them out more clearly and post an annotated image if successful. There are also a couple of Mag 17ish galaxies visible which is not bad for 300s subs through the soupy atmosphere at the horizon.

wow that,s a cool capture, I,ve never seen it, so very intriguing indeed.

when is the best time to view this ??

thanks dan

It's low in the South on the border of Virgo and Corvus - best viewed around 11.00pm at the moment but you do need a fairly unobstructed Southern horizon.
