@JBM1165 - 8-10 inch dobsonian is just the telescope I ultimately am looking at obtaining. I haven't done enough research on telescopes to know for sure, but I've yet to find a more highly regarded design than the 8-10 inch dobsonian.

Google "Mag 1 Instruments", and have a look at the Portaball Dob; they use premium components, including Zambuto mirrors. Also check out equitorial platforns .com
