New intro Astronomy and Astrophotography

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So i'm new into this and after doing a long exposure on my Nikon, it definitely pushed me over the edge so I'm thinking of purchasing either one of the links below

EON 120mm f/7.5 ED Apochromatic Refractor Telescope | Orion Telescopes

or

EON 80mm f/6.25 ED Apochromatic Refractor Telescope | Orion Telescopes

I'm definitely getting a equatorial goto mount for tracking purposes.

Orion SkyView Pro Equatorial GoTo Telescope Mount | Orion Telescopes

this should be suffice for my needs as a beginner? I already have a T mount for me to connect the body of my Nikon for imaging.

anyone got any pro/cons for any of this? would great appreciate the input.

I think for a beginner then the 80 will be great.

A few here (including me) have the Skywatcher ED80 DS PRO.

I'd recommend finding out what the focuser is like, not sure some tend to slip, with heavy DSLR.

have you decided which mount or if you're going to do guiding ??

Learning curve is huge, very good & reqarding - but huge !

thanks or the reply.

yeah i imagine the weight of the DSLR would do that, I figure some counter weight would have to exist.

I've decided on this mount..

Orion SkyView Pro Equatorial GoTo Telescope Mount | Orion Telescopes

yeah i'm learning that, the curve is huge lol. I'm in it though, it calms my nerves

Must admit - I know nothing of the Orion brand.

Are you in the USA ??

Am sure someone or two here will have those. Get advice first, on the actual.

There is no counterweight for the actual, focuser tube (on the mount counter weights).

ahhh ok.

I did some reading, and they seem to be really good..

I'm located in the US.

You may want to buy one of these for you model Nikon, they save the hassle of a laptop, and do away with the BulB limit of 30 seconds....

MC-DC1 Digital Timer Remote Control Shutter Release w: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

yeah I have the wireless remote for my Nikon D5100 camera ;)

I run alot of Orion stuff, heck 90% of my equipment is Orion. Shoot me a PM if you need help with anything. I run an Atlas EQ-G goto with a 10" Reflector. I'm more than willing to toss some setup advice if you need a hand.
