From your experience would you say the IS DMK21AU618 was better (if budget allowed) as a combined image and guider?

I'd give that an emphatic "YES" - it's much more sensitive - especially in the near infra red which is the wavelength of light less affected by atmospheric seeing.

It has much less noise and allows frame rates of 60fps. I'm delighted with it - a real quality piece of kit.
