How do you keep your Dob safe from moisture?

Recommended Posts

Being a new owner of a 10" Dob, I'm keen to do the right thing by it in terms of care and attention! In particular, I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing when bringing it back in after being outside, in terms of moisture etc forming.

Here's what I do now: If the mirrors etc are dew free outside, I stick the dust cap on the front, plug up the eyepiece holder, put the dust caps on the finderscope, bring it inside, store it pointing towards the floor, and leave it till the morning when I stow it away upright. If there is already dew on the optics outside, I do exactly the same except I don't cover anything up (thinking that this will help the moisture evaporate more quickly).

Does that sound right? Or am I subjecting my gear to unknown abuse? :)
