Noob webcam help!

Firstly apologies if I've posted this incorrectly, never used a forum before. I am looking for a webcam to image the moon, sun and planets. I have a budget of around £100. I have read about the SPC880 and SPC900 cameras but you cannot buy the 900 and the 880 is as rare as big foot. Can anyone recommend a good quality webcam and also software for it.

Many thanks...

A couple of threads inthe DIY section for you to read http://stargazerslounge.com/diy-astronomer/170747-xbox-livecam-mod-cliff.html and http://stargazerslounge.com/diy-astronomer/98106-how-i-ruined-microsoft-lifecam-hd.html. The first one is easy to convert, just remove the lens and add a nosepiece. The second is a bit more complicated to modify, remove the pcb from the casing and put it in a purpose made container. You could try modifying a Logitech 9000 , more complex.

Hi,

I use a SPC900 myself at the moment and it gives pretty good results for a webcam. There is one available at the moment on UK Astro buy & sell for £80 I believe. Not too bad a price for a hard to get little gem, just make sure it has the nosepiece and IR filter with it.

If that's too expensive then drop me a PM and we can chat. I'm more than likely parting with mine in the VERY near future.

Tony
