Mounting a Rigel

Recommended Posts

I am ordering a Rigel Quickfinder for my MAK 127 and wonder where on the OTA is the best place to mount it. The curent RDF is mounted at the extreme bottom (EP) end of the tube so most of the time you are on your knees when using it - when it works, and when you can find the red dot! Too far forward though and it will be in the way of the dew shield. What have other people done?

I have one on my SW 1145p. It is mounted between the RDF and the focuser directly behind the focuser.

I planed to replace the RDF with the Rigel but I found you cannot collimate it in daylight, you need the RDF to locate a target the set up the Rigel.

I can now use both, with a small head movement.
