Focuser grease

Hi all,

Thanks for recommending "Turn Left at Orion" - I read the intro yesterday and am looking forward to getting back out when the weather improves.

It is still raining in Swansea and itching to do something scopey - I read on here that it was possible to regrease the focuser on my C6R scope (is it a synta type?) - it's quite sticky in places and not particularly smooth - any tips on servicing a focuser and what grease is recommended? I also am still in need of some extended slow motion controls for my CG5 mount as my arms are only just long enough when my head is at the eyepiece end - I couldn't get them at Telescope House - any ideas?

Grease wise go for Super Lube... much nicer than the usual white lithium stuff. You can buy it on ebay for around £4 inc delivery. I've regreased my Eq10 (EQ5 clone).. top notch stuff

The old grease comes off very nicely with a squirt of WD40 on a rag. I used "copperslip" grease but it's not ideal, just the only thing I had at the time!! It's smooth but will need redoing much more frequently. Next time I would use a grease as suggested by Rob and Greg.

I don't have the right grease at the moment - just some extra thick Land Rover stuff that is covered in cobwebs at the back of my shed - probably whats in it now! Glad to know an improvement can be made.
