I have dug out the ill old faithful... And found a dust covered RA motor, in a box, in a cupboard under piles of stuff - never used!

Fitted, working... BUT

With the motor fitted, how do I manually fine tune the axis?

It appears the motor locks up and won't allow it?

Am I missing the plot?

... I can 'roughly' position axis by loosening off clutch, but obviously that's not close enough to 'lock' and start the motor running...

...can scopes fitted with 'goto' systems be manually 'fine adjusted'

If you slacken the clutches on a goto mount after it has been star aligned the mount then loses the alignment, so no you cannot fine tune the mount in that way. The handcontrol on a goto mount will allow fine adjustment and have a pointing accuracy feature (PAE).
