Is guiding with a 250p viable

It's not a conventional solution but there's no reason why you shouldn't, Mike D, myself and no doubt others use a 250 Newtonian with an of axis guider which means that we are guiding through a 250 Newtonian!

What you will notice is two things:-

1. your tracking graphs will look worse than with a shorter focal length telescope

2. the narrower field of view will make finding suitable guide stars more difficult
