A cable for focusing a Skymax 127

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I've got a SkyWatcher Skymax 127, it's seen very little use over the past year if I'm honest. But I feel like dusting the cobwebs and trying again with it.

I had it out in the garden last week showing my son Jupiter and it's moons and that all went well. However one problem that I noticed was that every time I turned the focus wheel the wobble was unbearable. I used to have an old meade scope, and that came with a nice little cable to let me focus without touching the scope. I was wondering if anyone knew of such a device for the Skymax 127 at all?

Many thanks

// Carl

I'm not aware of such an attachment for the SkyMax (I have one too). It's possible to buy motorised focussers for it, but those I have seen are a tad overpriced and not quite how I would want it to be, so I'm making my own. Once I get it made and working, I'll happily share the design.

Peter,

Thanks for the link I didn;t know they were available. - I shall also watch any developments on this thread re focussing the 127 as I too have found it a tad frustrating at times.

I presume that there is some form of hand control for "inching" the focus.

Perhaps an upgraded mount is part of the answer??
