Problems with ca

Recommended Posts

Just had the first real chance to use my Skywatcher evostar 90 refractor and oh dear what a disappointment. Terrible ca when looking at Jupiter completly spoiled image. I compared it to my Tal reflector no contest Tal wins. Am I expecting too much? If so looks like I will have to put it on Ebay!

The Evostar 90 won't be as good as a newtonian (which are apochromatic of course) but CA should be quite well controlled in an F/10 achromat. Are there any other extenuating circumstances such as Jupiter being low in the sky, eyepiece quality, out of collimation optics etc I wonder ?.
