Megrez 72 + Televue 2 x Powermate

Made a decision a while back not buy a Televue 2 x Powermate for use with my Megrez 72, but I had the chance to acquire one at a very favourable price, so I took the plunge.

Today I manage a quick peak in between the lovely clouds and am somewhat perplexed to find I can't reach focus with my Orion 5 mm illuminated reticle or a 16 mm WO SWAN eyepiece. It seems like I needed to wind out the draw tube on the Megrez, but I have reached its outer limit.

I tried a couple of configurations:

Megrez + Powermate + Diagonal + Eyepiece

Megrez + Powermate + Eyepiece (probably made it worse)

I must admit to being a bit rushed what with the clouds and having just got back from holiday being a bit jet lagged - may be i'm not thinking straight

Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Perhaps try Megrez - Diagonal - Powermate - Eyepiece ?

I think the Powermate is for use in the diagonal with refractors.

As he said Powermates do work both sides though with differing magnification / focal distance I think.

I just tried it:

But still no luck I estimate I need another 10-15 mm of focus travel.

Is that inward travel needed or outward travel ?

Sounds like a 50mm extension tube is needed:
