Orion, Sigma orion & M33 again

My latest attempts at sketching, 29/12/11 with 300p Flextube Dob and TV Radian 18mm.

As you can see I'm no artist and I'm struggling with the process of sketching, mainly lighting. I use a red light but still find it affects my night vision.

M33 first, detail was a lot fainter than picture

I then over stretched myself having a go at M42, which did not end well, so I had a go at a 'widefield' Orion and then sigma Orion.

I now need clear skies for some more practice.

I guess a few decent nights will have give you time to hone your skills, look forward to seeing a few more

Thanks Alan, drawing an object does help in concentrating on details. It's a bit of a blow when you see a drawing in daylight to find it's awful

well if you think your artistic skills are poor you should see mine, I'm just about ok with dot to dot..my constellations are brilliant

I think they are superb. M33 can be difficult. You've got a good observing eye to pull out the detail you recorded. Good stuff

That M33 sketch is pretty good, you have captured what it does indeed look like in a 12 inch, you should be very proud.

One thing try and get hold of an artists stump, simply a very tightly would bit of paper like a pencil to blend with as you can get superb looking nebulae using one, I use then all the time.
