Skywatcher st80 finderscope

Hi,

I've just received my ST-80 tabletop version. However I can't figure out how to attach the red dot finderscope. There isn't any screw or thumbscrew to tighten...

Anyone know how to do this?

There should be a chrome thumb screw on the finder dovetail which is an integral part of the focuser unit. The finder foot slides into the dovetail and you tighten up the thumbscrew to hold it in place.

The finder shoe is normally drilled and has a screw in the side of it to hold the finder foot in place. Yours appears to be missing that feature

I am assuming from your post that this is a new scope. I suggest asking the supplier about this. It looks like a manufacturing omission. Unless this is a new plan to make the finder shooe a tight push fit?

If it was my new scope, I would ask the supplier to sort it out.

If 2nd hand, I would drill and tap for a small screw.

I have attached a photo that shows the standard fixing screw location. This was on an ST102 I used to own, with a modified red dot finder. The principle is though the same.

I was thinking about gluing it, because I don't have any tool at mine (i'm at university).

Or asking to my uni's workshop to drill 2 holes...

I'm not that sure the tabletop (plastic) focuser has the securing screw?

That looks like a very odd backend for an st80. Maybe it's just the photo angle.

It looks odd because this is the tabletop version, the end of the telescope is more curved compared to the other version.

I'd put a paper shim between the face of the finder and the mount.
