Quick Perseus double-cluster

Hi all

So, this was my first target during my marathon session last night.... I actually grabbed about 12 X 1min subs and four 6 min subs on it but when I tried stacking them all together in DSS it was having none of it and was outputting images covered in bright pink snow (nice!)

As such I ended up just stacking three of the four 6min subs (one had a satelite through the middle)... and got this... I'm pretty happy with this, star colour is not looking too bad and the resolution is looking nice...

Anyway, not that exciting... but thought I'd share anyway!

Cheers

Ben

PS: Techie details are:

Mount: HEQ5-Pro

Scope: WO Meg72 + WO FFII reducer/flattener

Camera: Eos 500D Modded + LP clip filter

Guiding: SX Lodestar, ST80, PHD/EQmod

That's really colourful and very nice indeed one of my favourite star clusters this one. I had a go at Galaxy 891 last night and came up with this but my second attempts at the Horse head nebula were plagued by trailing issues. I really must get an ST4 port on my system so I can use the auto guider set up and banish the dreaded trailing once and for all. Last night was the best clear night for ages hope it continues.

You may need to reset your deepsky stacker settings

Heres what mine is set to

Under stacking parameters.

Result:

select "standard mode" leave EVERYTHING else blank.

Comet:

standard stacking

Light:

Kappa-sigma-clipping

kappa set to 2.00, number of iterations set to 5.

Every thing else blank.

Dark:

select "median"

Tick "hot pixel detection

"

everything else blank.

Flat:

select median

Bias/offset:

Median

Alignment:

Automatic

Intermediate files:

Tiff

Cosmetic:

Select both detect ho

t and cold pixels.

Set hot and cold filter size to 1px.

Hot detection threshold I use 83%.

Cold detection threshold 50%

Everything else un selected

Output:

Should be ok as default settings.

In register settings, use 10% star detection threshold.

I had problems with m31 like that and changing to these setting cured it so it might help, worth a try.
