ah i see. but then surely these people did not read the op's specifications.. " the best views" ... he did not mention portability, only the visual quality.

I just find it strange that 150 ota's are being reccomended.

It's the best views with a 1000 budget, as far as I'm aware there are no bigger SCTs or APO refractors selling for under 1000.

Without a limit I would pick the biggest APO triplet available and and some Zeiss Abbe Orthos.

Yeah that would make an awesome setup :)

OK back to earth. Not only do you need the OTA you will need a mount, a few eyepieces depending upon the seeing conditions, maybe a power pack, dew shields. a red dot finder or Telrad etc etc so for £1000 the recommendations given by people in this thread are suitable for the OP's needs :)
