google sky map app

Hello there got a quick question, I've got an android smart phone and download googles sky map app. Has anyone used it and what do you think? A good tool or just tat?

I have Star walk which appears to be very good.

When using any of the sky maps you need to do two things first turn on your gps and let it locate next calibrate your magnometer (move your phone round in the shape of the infinity symbol, an 8 on it's side. Just move your phone round about 10 times usually for me). Until you do this the sky maps will point in random directions. There are a few apps available google sky map, star chart, skeye etc if you have a samsung device theres star chart solar (free) in the samsung app store (theres an app on all samsung devices).

They're all pretty good :-)

I find it very useful on my galaxy tab, once I figured out how to stop autotracking.

I have google sky map and vortex planetarium on my phone, I prefer vortex out of the two.

i heard skyjunk is very good and gives lots of info and from what ive wseen seems to be good

I use it on my Samsung Galaxy and have found it a very useful tool. Just keep it in my pocket and if I need to I just hold it up to the sky as a quick reference.

Thanks guys will have a look outside after our midnight snack not sure stargazing intoxicated is the best idea lol but will give it a go
