infrared filters

hi there.

i am moving into the world of rgb imaging with a imaging source dmk21 au618.as mono ccd. the camera comes without ir cut filter, so what i would like to know is, when imaging with the rgb filters, do you need to use a ir filter at the same time as the colour filters, or do you do a seperate ir image on its own?

also, if imaging chips are sensitive to infrared light, why use a ir pass filter?

cheers guys,

mason.

It depends on the quality of the filters you buy. Decent RGB filters should have IR cut built into them.

The separate IR cut image is your luminescence layer (as in LRGB)

An IR pass filter can be used in place of the IR cut to get better detail out of planets when the seeing conditions are poor. You would then create an IRpassRGB image rather than IRcutRGB
