Meade LX200 microfocuser

Recommended Posts

Having had an LX200 GPS for a few months, I'm finding the microfocusing unit is driving me a bit mad. :D I find it difficult to achieve a decent focus, and ultimately just seem to end up messing about with it, and not really achieving anything....

I've replaced it with a WO crayford for next time, to see if I'm missing the intuitive method...but it hits the forks, so I can't view the zenith with it, so it's going to be a bit of a pain.

Am I missing something, or has anyone else replaced these things?

Maybe I'm just being too impatient? :D

The Meade microfocusser controller (inc. the Autostar) does not have an electronic break. The effect of not having an electronic break is that when your finger comes off the focusser button, it runs on for a fraction of a second. If you buy an Astro-engineering micro-focus controller - AC516 (available from Scope 'n' Skies bargain bin for just £29 inc. postage) this has an electronic break and should make focussing a lot easier.
