Tool for viewing field of view for different eyepieces?

Recommended Posts

Do treat that tool with a fairly large "pinch of salt" with regard to what objects could actually look like. The phrase "your mileage may vary" springs to mind here and it almost certainly will because what you actually see depends very much on the seeing conditions, local light pollution, eyepiece quality used, state of collimation of the optics and the experience of the observer - so many variables which the software has no way of factoring in you see !.

As a guide to the true field of view that a particular eyepiece / scope combination delivers it may be a more reliable guide although I just put in the combination that I was using to view Jupiter last night and thought that the software simulation fell well short of what I was seeing :(
