thank you Mark, the constantly changing features brings new challenges everytime I play with the PST.

A tip I could offer is to even out discrepencies in brightness across the individual panes would be to use the dodge / burn feature in photoshop - go for a large brush with a faded edge, set the range to midtones and exposure at 1%. Really easy to smooth out an image this way

thank you Mark I do use the dodge/burn brushes to enhance some the sunspot and filament details. I hadn't considered using it for balancing out a gradient.
